Billionaire sells part of Ferrexpo stake

Ferrexpo, the Ukrainian iron ore specialist which will lose its place in the FTSE 100 next Monday, has fallen 3% after the billionaire behind the business cashed in some shares.

Kostyantin Zhevago has sold 21.3m shares at 167p each, raising £35m and leaving him with 71.49%. As a result, the shares have lost 5.2p to 163p.

Back with the banks, Barclays has unveiled a £750m placing to help pay for the acquisition of a number of the assets of the collapsed Lehman Brothers. This is on top of discussions with some of its existing shareholders about potential share subscriptions. Barclays is 15.2p better at 333p.

With investors now more mollified about the HBOS deal and the central bank intervention, the FTSE 100 is currently 83.9 points higher at 4996.3.
