Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd and Ernie Hudson return in first Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire trailer

Supernatural entities had better beware as original Ghostbusters stars Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd and Ernie Hudson return in the first trailer for Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire.

Continuing the story from the 2021 movie Ghostbusters: Afterlife, the latest instalment of the beloved franchise which first began in 1984, will follow the family of the late Egon Spengler, including his daughter Callie (Carrie Coon) and two grandchildren Phoebe (Mckenna Grace) and Trever (Finn Wolfhard), as they take on a new threat to civilisation.

This time, they are facing up to a chilly haunting where they will have to figure out how and why residents of New York have been frozen to death in the summer.

Thankfully, they have Egon's former colleagues Dr. Peter Venkman (Murray), Ray Stantz (Aykroyd) and Winston Zeddemore (Hudson) to help them.

Also returning is Paul Rudd as school teacher Gary Grooberson, along with new additions to the cast in the shape of Patton Oswalt and Kumail Nanjiani.

Gil Kenan, who co-wrote the script for Afterlife, will serve as director.

No official release date has yet been announced with the trailer simply teasing it will be out in "spring".

The official Ghostbusters Instagram account shared the trailer on Wednesday with excited fans sharing their first reactions in the comments.

"I am so ready, and seeing Winston geared up again…real tears," wrote one person.

"Already standing in line to see this. It's cool though, I brought a jacket," penned another.

"Yo, this looks amazing!!! agreed a third. Adding: "Already making plans to see this opening day, whenever that is."
