Bihar: Chhapra Municipal Corporation okays Rs 77 crore for drains & roads

CHHAPRA: The Chhapra Municipal Corporation has sanctioned Rs77 crore for the construction of the second phase of drains and roads in the 38 wards of the town. The funds were approved by councillors in a meeting presided over by mayor Suneeta Devi on Tuesday.

The councillors, however, alleged unusual delay in completion of different projects taken up by BUIDCO. They said delay in the double-decker flyover project and 'Khanua Nala' would cause waterlogging in the town. If the above projects remain incomplete till June, the residents of the town would face problems of waterlogging during monsoon, they apprehended.

Replying to the allegations against BUIDCO, its junior engineer Naveen Kumar said 85% of Khanua Nala works has been completed and the delay is due to encroachment in about 80 metres area at Karimchak. Meanwhile, the councillors strongly objected to the proposal of enhancing holding tax and suggested that this could be done only after providing more facilities to the residents. Municipal commissioner Sanjai Upadhaya said tenders have been invited to appoint new agency for door-to-door collection of garbage. He hoped that the new agency would start garbage collection by April 30.

The members also drew the attention of municipal commissioner towards encroachment of footpaths by the vendors and demanded that provision of vending and parking zones should be made in the town.
