Bid for Celtic and Rangers 'target' Thomas Robert 'not far away', says Airdrie boss Ian Murray

Airdrie boss Ian Murray says the club face a fight on their hands to keep midfielder Thomas Robert with the club bracing themselves for a bid in the January transfer window.

The Frenchman has attracted interest from Celtic and Rangers, with Hearts and Hibs also linked to the winger in recent weeks.

Celtic have watched the player, with Hoops scout Tosh McKinlay and head of recruitment Nick Hammond taking in league games against Montrose and East Fife, respectively.

And on Saturday he impressed yet again with his fourth goal of the season, scoring directly from a corner in a 4-2 win at Clyde.

Murray reckons suitors will have been so impressed with his overall play, clubs are gearing up to table an offer.

He said: “It wouldn’t surprise me if we have a fight to keep him. Thomas has done really, really well.

“He showed his class again against Clyde with the corner kick, but it wasn’t just that, in the first half he was excellent, his touches on the ball, his movement, his timing in the releasing of the ball, the way he picked up space, was excellent.

"We’ve had loads of clubs looking at him, a few of them were pretty impressed.

"Were they impressed enough to make a bid, I’m not sure, but I think there are a couple who are not too far away from that.”
