BGT's MerseyGirls in tears after watching 'thank you' performance to Simon Cowell

Britain's Got Talent stars MerseyGirls were in tears watching their performance back on today's This Morning.

The Liverpudlian dance troupe won the hearts of the nation in 2017 with their emotional routines.

And Simon Cowell stuck to the promise he made during the final and paid £175,000 for Julia Carlisle to have surgery on her back in the USA.

The girls are back on stage this weekend for BGT: The Champions, where Julia will dance in front of Simon for the first time since her life-changing operation.

Speaking on This Morning, Julia said: "I've seen Simon a few times but he hasn’t seen me dance since my surgery. That was the first time. It was so mental. I couldn't dance without crying. I wanted to show him what I could do. That dance was to thank Simon."

Giving an update on her progress, she said: "I’m doing so well. To think two years ago I was in a hospital bed and now I’m here dancing with my best friends is crazy. Since having surgery I’m doing very well."

MerseyGirls are making an emotional comeback to BGT and have been joined by two new members.

Kate and Emily, who have been friends with the rest of the girls for years, were on stage with Julia, Alice and Rebecca for their 'Champions' performance.

Alice confessed she thought their routine in the 2017 final would be their last together, so they are "grateful" that Simon paid for Julia's surgery.

While Rebecca admitted that perfectionist Julia is definitely "the boss" of the group.

On being back in the limelight, Julia said: "I feel like we're just normal girls up against all the champions. To get through would be mind-blowing."

The girls are dreaming big beyond BGT and would love to end up in America.

Julia said: "We'd love to be in LA having our own little TV show. We want to inspire people as well. LA is the place to be."
