BetMcLean League Cup final date pushed back

The final of this season's BetMcLean League Cup final has been pushed back a month.

The showpiece decider was originally scheduled to be played on Saturday, February 19.

The NI Football League has announced that the final will now be played on a date in March.

It follows talks with the four semi-finalists who meet on Tuesday night. Cliftonville host Ballymena United at Solitude while Warrenpoint Town travel to Coleraine.

The NI Football League said: "Following consultation with all four semi-finalists the NIFL can confirm the League Cup final will now be scheduled for March 2022 on a date to be confirmed.

"The decision to reschedule the final later in the football calendar will assist in growing the competition and maximising the event for all parties involved.

"The date, kick-off time and arrangements will be confirmed and communicated later this month."

The League Cup has returned this season following a one-year hiatus after the competition was cancelled in 2020/21 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Coleraine remain the holders following their win over Crusaders in the last final held in April 2020.
