Bethesda Brings the Wasteland to the tabletop with Fallout Power Play

Bethesda and Modiphius Entertainment have announced Fallout: Power Play, a competitive card game launching in January 2026 that brings the post-apocalyptic franchise to tabletops. Priced at approximately $30, the game arrives as the Fallout franchise rides a wave of renewed interest following Amazon’s hit TV adaptation, currently in its second season.

The announcement comes at a strategic moment for the franchise. Bethesda is currently focused on developing The Elder Scrolls 6, meaning Fallout 5 won’t enter full production until that project concludes. With the next mainline Fallout game likely years away, Power Play offers fans a way to engage with the Wasteland while they wait.

Fallout: Power Play—The fight of the four factions

Designed for two to four players, Power Play puts participants in control of one of the four iconic factions from the games. The Brotherhood of Steel, the Enclave, the Raiders, and the Super Mutants all compete to dominate key Wasteland locations. Players deploy agents, gain influence, and complete quests. Victory goes to the first faction to accumulate 10 points.

Each faction features unique mechanics that reflect their identity in the broader franchise. The Brotherhood of Steel gains advantages when controlling pre-war technology, while the Enclave can replay Power Play cards to disrupt opponents. Raiders specialize in theft and sabotage, and Super Mutants possess resistance to radiation hazards.

The game introduces unpredictability with Wasteland event cards drawn with each turn. These bring environmental threats like Deathclaw attacks or atomic explosions into play. The design aims to recreate the sudden chaos and political maneuvering that defines the Fallout universe, with players forced to adapt their strategies as opponents disrupt their plans and random disasters strike.

Power Play is positioned as a more accessible alternative to Modiphius’ previous Fallout tabletop offerings. While the publisher has released complex miniatures wargames and roleplaying systems over the past seven years, this card game targets casual players and newcomers looking for a shorter, coffee-table-friendly experience that still captures the franchise’s post-apocalyptic flavor.

Riding the Fallout TV show’s success

The timing aligns with the franchise’s cultural resurgence. Amazon’s Fallout series drew 65 million viewers in its first 16 days and became the second most-watched title in Prime Video history. The show’s success translated directly to the games: Fallout 4 saw a 55 percent increase in engagement, while the original 1997 Fallout experienced a 160 percent player base increase on Steam.
