Best king size duvets for a comfy and cosy night's sleep

‘Eat like a king’ may be the more common phrase, but if we’re talking about doing everyday things in a majestic fashion, we think sleeping like a king is a far more tantalising prospect.

You don’t need a family tree that stretches back to William the Conquerer to do it either. With high thread count luxury sheets dressed over a sumptuous mattress sitting, and the whole lot sitting upon a grand bed frame, you can enjoy a right royal kip every night of the week - minus trips to fancy palaces (notoriously chilly).

Bedding is key to feeling ensconced in cloud-like comfort, and with equal importance to the right pillow is a plump duvet. The sort that feels suitably cuddly and marshmallow-like while also being light enough so as not to feel smothered. If you prefer sleeping under a heavier covering, consider adding a weighted blanket to your sleep set-up.

While logic would dictate that you pick a duvet to match your mattress size, going one up - a king duvet on a double-size mattress size, say - offers oversized levels of cosiness, creating a welcome retreat when the weather is ghastly outside. And if you happen to share your bed, it also means you’re less likely to engage in duvet wars in the early hours to gain back a precious few inches.

Whether you like the idea of wrapping yourself up in a king duvet on chilly nights or fancy an XL covering to curl up on the sofa in, we’ve rounded up the best king-size duvets below.

Nanu Hot & Not Duvet

Tog: 10.5/13.5 tog

If you share a bed with a human furnace or icicle, it can be hard to agree on a single duvet that will satisfy both parties. This is where Nanu’s Hot & Not duvet comes in.

The unique split-weight covering can be made warmer on one side than the other, allowing you both to drift off in your ideal sleeping temperature and bringing blissful peace to the bedroom.

Choose from double or king size, with 10.5 tog on one side and 13.5 tog on the other - how’s that for toasty? Before you order, a word of warning; you can only go one tog level up or down so if you’re a duo that experiences polar shifts in heat, you may be better off getting separate duvets altogether.

Silentnight Soft as Silk Duvet King Duvet

With a 13.5 tog rating, you may expect this duvet to cost more than it does but starting at just £26 for a single, it’s an affordable option for students and those on a strict budget.

That said, this certainly doesn’t feel like a cheap duvet. Soft and bouncy thanks to the fill of super springy fibres and soft Percale cover, it’s hypo-allergenic too, making it ideal for those who get sneezy around all-natural designs. It comes with a five-year guarantee and is machine-washable and tumble-dry safe.
