Best day of the year for online dating is coming up

Dating app Zoosk has revealed that January 3, 2021 could be the perfect day to meet someone online. That’s because it’s ‘Dating Sunday,’ traditionally the busiest day of the year for dating sites. Zoosk is predicting an activity surge, including 2.58 million messages sent via the platform.

In online dating circles, the holiday season doesn’t stop after New Year’s Eve. Instead, there’s an extra holiday that’s just for singles: Dating Sunday, aka the first Sunday in January, aka the busiest day of the online dating year.

With social distancing regulations driving singles seeking connection online, Zoosk is predicting that this upcoming Dating Sunday will be the biggest yet. The company is anticipating that 2.58 million messages will be sent on the Zoosk platform, one million more than last year’s prediction. The messaging frenzy is likely to peak around 9:30pm local time.

Messaging is not the only activity that’s set for an increase on Zoosk. The Zoosk team compared data from Dating Sunday 2020 to average activity levels to predict what to expect on Dating Sunday 2021.

Zoosk Dating Sunday Uplift 2020:

  • New Registrations: +24%
  • Messages sent: +25%
  • Hearts sent: +30%
  • Winks sent: +32%

Kirill Priyatel, CCO of Zoosk and Spark Networks, said: “Sunday is typically the busiest day of the week on the Zoosk platform, as it’s when our members have the most time to spend on online dating.

On the first Sunday in January, this effect combines with the fact that many people have spent the holidays single and have just made a New Year’s resolution to find a relationship. This results in increased activity on Zoosk – on Dating Sunday 2021, our team is expecting a 24% increase in registrations and a 25% increase in messages sent.”

Priyatel is forecasting that Dating Sunday will be part of a peak season on Zoosk: reports of couples finding love on the site this winter are already up by 7%, and platform activity is expected to stay high right through to Valentine’s Day.
