Best cordless hair straighteners for festivals and travel - from Boots, Argos and Amazon

Whether you’re going to a music festival like Glastonbury or Parklife, or jetting off on a sunny getaway - styling your hair can become a challenge if there are no plug sockets. Thankfully cordless straighteners have grown in popularity in recent years among beauty lovers, and are a must for those who can’t be without their styling tools.

Dozens of best-loved brands have launched their own versions of wireless straighteners, including Dyson, ghd and Cloud Nine - but they don’t come particularly cheap.

That said, there are certainly some more affordable options on the market, including one that’s £100.

Cordless straighteners are ideal for quick touch ups when camping out at festivals or for a family holiday, and since they can also be used to curl hair, it means you can pack fewer heavy electronics if you’re off on a trip abroad, too.

We’ve rounded up some of the best cordless straighteners for 2023, priced between £100 and £400 and readily available from retailers like Boots, Argos and Amazon, so you’ll never need to be tethered to the wall in order to achieve pin-straight locks ever again.

Dyson Corrale cord-free straightener

Dyson Corrale cord-free straightener (Dyson)

From the innovators behind the Dyson Airwrap comes the Vogue Beauty Award Winner of ‘Best Hair Innovation Tool’ 2020, the Dyson Corrale.

It claims to be the only straightener with flexing copper plates that shape to gather hair neatly together on each pass, allowing for less heat, and therefore ‘half the damage’.

The Corrale delivers up to 30 minutes of cordless styling, and fully recharges in 70 minutes. And if you need to style for longer, shoppers can attach the magnetic 360° cable and style in hybrid charge mode.

It's engineered for all hair types, with three precise heat settings – 165°C, 185°C and 210°C, complete with intelligent heat control, which regulates the temperature of the plates 100 times a second, so you know it'll never exceed your chosen temperature.

In terms of safety features, the device switches off after 10 minutes of inactivity for added peace of mind, with a safety lock for immediate storage after use.

With its OLED display, you can quickly see the battery level and charging status, as well as the temperature during use, making it a really nifty bit of kit for your hair styling wardrobe.

While it’s digital technology and heat regulation is undeniably impressive, it comes in at a whopping £399.99 , so isn’t exactly a budget option - but we’ve previously found with Dyson when testing the Dyson Airwrap against dupes that you get what you pay for most of the time.

Compact and lightweight is the GHD Unplugged Cordless Hair Straightener , which comes in slightly cheaper than the Dyson at £299.99 - but is still pretty pricey.

Featuring hybrid co-lithium technology with an advanced, long-lasting lithium-ion battery, the ghd cordless hair straightener charges in two hours, and can be charged from your plug, car or laptop, making it the ultimate handbag hair styling hero.

GHD promises the guaranteed performance of a regular ghd tool, despite being cordless, and has an optimum styling temperature of 185°C that is constantly monitored across the high-gloss styling plates.

The device has a three minute automatic sleep mode and only 15 minutes until fully cooled, and comes with a luxury, heat resistant travel pouch. You can shop them on the ghd website here.

With three optimal temperatures you can ensure you’re styling without the unnecessary heat damage, and with plates equal to the size of the Original and Touch Iron straighteners, they’ll offer the same CLOUD NINE styling performance as their corded counterparts.

These straighteners cost £100 less than the gdh’s, at £199. However, the Charging Pod is sold separately , and costs £49.50 when you buy the straighteners.
