Where to look for Black Friday 2020 phone deals?

Whether you are looking for a contract or have enough cash to splash out on a handset all in one go, below are top retailers to start your search:

Last year a number of retailers launched deals early, giving consumers even more time to shop for the best bargains. Top phone deals included the Apple iPhone XR slashed to £549 from GiffGaff and free Nintendo Switch consoles with Samsung A20e contracts from Carphone Warehouse.

But finding the right deals can be a tricky task, especially if you're not sure where to start looking or what you should be looking for. Luckily, for shoppers contemplating buying a new phone during Black Friday, Mobiles.co.uk has put together a survival guide to getting the best possible deals.

Be prepared

Whether you’re planning on shopping online or in-store this Black Friday, it’s a good idea to be both prepared and savvy.

If you’re going to brave the shops, then make a list prior to your trip so you know exactly where to start. If you’re going to shop online, save any items you intend on buying to your wish list or basket.

Alternatively, you could make a list of everything you’re hoping to pick up on a platform such as Pinterest.

Quality not quantity

Research revealed that more than one in five (22%) shoppers have returned a Black Friday purchase in the past, as well as 20% admitting to getting carried away on the day.

Researching items beforehand can help you make more informed purchases and stop you from coming away with items you don’t really need.

Follow retailers on social media

Following your favourite retailers on social media will allow you to stay up-to-date with their Black Friday activity including which products will be going on sale, how much discount they are offering, and what time their sale is set to start.

Don’t have social media? Don’t worry! Should your preferred retailers have a newsletter, then sign up to receive the relevant information via email instead.

Set a budget

Overspending was the reason that over a quarter (28%) of Black Friday purchases were returned² in 2018. Setting a budget and making a list of the items you want to buy (within your budget) is a good way to avoid overspend.

Another top tip is to buy your essential items first, then re-evaluate your spending as you might have enough left over for an extra little treat!

Put your feet up

Although people within the UK are known for their polite queues, over a quarter (28%)³ say they dislike Black Friday because of the long checkout times. If you don’t fancy leaving the house, you can also put your feet up, and surf for top deals online.

Pressed for time? Don’t worry!

Don’t suffer from FOMO (fear of missing out) if you’re unable to take part in this year’s Black Friday event.

After all, Cyber Monday lands just three days after, so take advantage of the online sales then instead. Plus, the online deals last all day, so you’ll have even more time to grab a bargain.

What is Black Friday?

Black Friday originated in the US and a sale shopping event that coincides with the Thanksgiving holiday.

Originally a US tradition, the huge sales event has since spread across the pond to the UK, with retailers simultaneously discounting thousands of products across all categories.

The huge shopping event is most famous for its impressive tech bargains, meaning that if you want a new phone for a decent price, one of your best chances of getting it is on Black Friday.

What date does Black Friday 2020 fall on?

Black Friday will fall on Friday 27 November for 2020, followed by Cyber Monday on 30 November.
