Bernardo Silva has been on the top of his game this season, earning calls for him to be named the Player of the Season if his form continues.
When asked about Bernardo's incredible form of late, Pep Guardiola said the Manchester City man was the best in the Premier League, and advised any doubters to look back on his 2018/19 season and compare his levels to that campaign. After that season, where City pipped Liverpool to the title by a single point on the final day, Bernardo was a clear winner of City's Player of the Year award.
After a quieter 2019/20 and 2020/21, Bernardo is now performing at a similar level to that award-winning season, and says the secret to his good form is a good lifestyle away from City's training ground.
Speaking to City TV for a feature where he walked his dog - named 'John, after John Stones' - Bernardo said: "The most important thing is to have a good lifestyle.
"Eat well, rest well, you're prepared to play football. I focus on my training on the pitch, do my best, stay as fit as possible to be ready for the games."
And Bernardo was also asked about City's home win during that 2018/19 season against title rivals Liverpool - a tight affair that ultimately gave the Blues the title.
Bernardo, who broke the Premier League record for most distance run in a single game during the match (13.7km), reflected on the win as his most intense game for City.
"That was one of the best memories I have with City," he said. "At that time we were behind them, it was tough. To beat them at home gave us hope to win the title. One of the most intense games I played.
"I loved that moment. I remember it was the record for the Premier League because everyone said after the match, it's a lot. That game was crazy, when it finished I was dead, I couldn't walk. It was the most intense game I played in my whole life."
