Bernard Shaw pub scores 'stunning own goal' by slagging off northsiders with 'classist' Instagram post

Hipster mecca the Bernard Shaw scored "a stunning own goal' just hours before it was due to reopen as a northside pub.

The popular boozer last month closed its South Richmond Street doors for the last time after announcing that it would be making a move across the Liffey to Glasnevin.

The new venue reopens this evening - but they also managed to reopen old wounds in the great northside-southside divide with a meme they stuck on their Instagram page that locals are not taking too kindly to.

The post - which has since been deleted - shows an image of a gang of menacing youths captioned 'Northsiders before the Shaw moved' and below that, another photo of some gentrified hipster types laughing amongt themselves, along with the word 'After'.

The meme has not gone down well with some however, though others said they saw the funny side.

But things took a turn for the worse when SheNetworks announced that they were cancelling their gig planned for the new venue tomorrow night over the storm.

They tweeted: "We’ve been left with no choice but to cancel our event - “Where Art Goes”- which was supposed to take place in The Bernard Shaw tomorrow evening."

The statement reads: ""After a classist Instagram post made by the Bernard Shaw earlier today (which has since been deleted), we regret to inform you all that we are left with no choice but to cancel our Where Art Goes event that was scheduled to take place tomorrow evening.

“Our entire message is to highlight to the people of Ireland where art can still thrive and flourish without any form of prejudice or classism."

And it didn't end there either, with some people pointing out that the Shaw's new neighbourhood isn't exactly a rough spot - noting that leafy Iona Road and its massive €1m plus homes is just a stone's throw away.

Others were just plain angry...

While one bright spark even likened the once 'woke' pub to the posh boys of Fine Gael...
