Bengaluru robbers flee with Rs 3.5 crore, held near Chittor

JAIPUR: A team of Udaipur police on Wednesday arrested four armed men, fleeing after robbing jewellery and cash worth Rs 3 crore from a jewellery shop in Bengaluru’s Electronics City.

Additional SP (City) Chandra Sheel Thakur said a team of Udaipur police had intercepted the getaway vehicle of the accused near Begu in neighbouring Chittorgarh district. “The accused fired nearly four rounds at the police team. Udaipur police’s constables Govind Singh, Dala Ram and Sumit Yadav also responded by returning fire at the suspects and did not allow them to flee,” Thakur added.

Police have identified the accused as Devaram, Anil and Ram Singh, residents of Pali, Ram Singh, a native of Jodhpur, and Rahul, a resident of the Sirohi district.

Bengaluru police contacted additional DGP (ACB) Dinesh MN for help. Dinesh informed Udaipur police about the matter and a team was constituted for the same. A team of Bengaluru police also landed in Udaipur and were assisted by local police.

“Udaipur police intercepted the robbers in Begu. They fired at the police team before cops surrounded them,” Thakur said.

Udaipur police said they have also recovered the robbed items from the accused. “The accused will be handed over to Bengaluru police for the heist. But we will also file a separate case of arms Act against the four because they had fired on our team,” Thakur said.

Udaipur police said the four accused are notorious robbers who had gone to Bengaluru with a plan to rob the shop and then flee to Rajasthan. “We’re recommending constables for suitable rewards as they braved the hail of fire and continued to follow the accused,” Thakur said.

Bengaluru police, however, were tailing the accused and informed their counterparts in Rajasthan when they learned that the accused were passing through the Udaipur region.
