Bengaluru: Former taluk panchayat member Rathnamma crushed to death in freak accident

BENGALURU: A 60-year-old Congress functionary and former taluk panchayat member was crushed between a truck and the compound wall of her house in Kithaganur near Hoskote on Monday. She died on her way to hospital.

Rathnamma was a member of Bengaluru South taluk panchayat in 1993. Her husband Chikkamuniyappa was a member of Bengaluru Urban zilla panchayat.

Police said the accident occurred around 7pm when Rathnamma was standing outside and watching a truck reversing to unload sand dust next to her house. However, the truck’s right rear wheels got stuck in a pit and the vehicle tilted towards the right. Rathnamma, caught between the vehicle and compound wall, was crushed to death. Neighbours and others managed to bring her out and take her to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared her dead.

Police registered a case against the truck driver and arrested him.
