Bengals practice squad projection after final cuts

The Cincinnati Bengals met the NFL’s deadline by trimming the roster to 53 players on Tuesday.

There were some surprises, such as leaving off summer breakout Raymond Johnson III and veteran safety Michael Thomas.

But some of those surprises, plus other veterans and developmental pieces alike, could end up right back on the team’s practice squad.

Some reminders about the waiver wire and practice squad rules:

• Players with more than four seasons of service (like Thomas) are free agents right away.
• Waiver claims will be processed by noon ET on Wednesday.
• Practice squads, featuring 16 players, get announced at 1 p.m. ET.
