Ben Simmons says he’ll actually shoot 3s this season

It’s happening. It’s really happening. This year could be the year.

Ben Simmons has played two full NBA seasons without making a single attempt from 3-point range. The 11 attempts from his rookie season consisted entirely of end-of-clock heaves, and he took just a couple serious attempts in Year 2. But generally, Simmons has refused to even consider taking a 3 in the regular flow of a game.

That could finally be changing this season.

Speaking at Sixers media day Monday, Simmons was asked if he intended to shoot threes this season. And the Sixers guard said that he will take the shot if he’s open. Sound the alarms: It’s SHOOTING SZN for Simmons.

Given that he hasn’t made a 3 in his career, that promise will be put to the test early. Teams will continue to leave Simmons open, and he’ll have to prove both a willingness to shoot and ability to knock those shots down before anyone considers game-planning for BEN SIMMONS, 3-POINT SHOOTER.

He’s been working on the shot in offseason pickup games.

But hey, this could finally be the year where Simmons makes a 3-pointer in an NBA game. They have big goals in Philadelphia.
