Ben Shephard confirms GMB return but says recovery from knee op has been 'agony'

Ben Shephard has confirmed when he is returning to work after several weeks off following a nasty leg injury.

The Good Morning Britain presenter ruptured his ACL, tore his meniscus, and fractured his leg during a football game.

During a chat on GMB back in June Ben revealed to co-host Susanna Reid he had originally carried on playing as he had "severed all the nerves" and couldn't feel any pain. You can read more on this here.

Since then the Tipping Point host has had surgery with his colleagues all sending him well wishes as he discussed the operation from his hospital bed.

In a new update Ben has confirmed when he is returning to work and detailed his recovery.

Sitting in an armchair, the 46-year-old described the healing process as "agony" as he filmed himself attached to a Physiolab machine and said he was 11 to 12 days post-op.

He explained: "I spend most of my days attached to this machine here. It pumps freezing cold water via this tube into the cuff that's around my knee and helps reduce the swelling and compresses as well."

Ben, who's also been doing physio a couple of times a week, added: "It's agony at times, as anybody who has been through this will know, but a necessary evil. We're taking it slowly but we're getting there I think."

The dad-of-two then confirmed he would be returning to GMB alongside Susanna on Monday as he thanked fans for their "amazing messages".

He told his Instagram followers: "I'll keep you updated as I go back to @gmb with @susannareid100 on Monday. Hopefully you'll be waking up with us – I just need to remember to set my alarm clock."

Ben first told of his horror leg injuries, which he sustained during the Arthur Dunn cup final, last month.

Speaking to his GMB co-hosts and viewers at home, he said: "Without realising I have ruptured my ACL, I've torn the meniscus, and I've fractured part of my leg as well."

ITV's health expert Dr Hilary Jones then interjected: "That's a nasty injury, that is a nasty injury."

Ben continued: "Interestingly I didn't realise I had done it quite so badly, I carried on playing for 25 minutes before I thought: 'It feels a little bit unstable, perhaps I should stop'.

"It turns out I had severed all the nerves which is why I couldn't feel any pain and just carried on playing."
