Ben Davies set for lengthy injury absence which causes problem for next Tottenham manager

Tottenham defender Ben Davies has been ruled out for between four to six weeks with the hamstring injury he suffered against Southampton, football.london understands.

The Welshman was forced off before half-time in Spurs' 3-3 draw at St Mary's on Saturday and now football.london understands the damage to his hamstring could take up to six weeks to heal. That would mean Davies would not be available until May for the final games of the season if his recovery remains on track.

The 29-year-old, who was named as Wales vice-captain last week before having to pull out of their latest squad, has become a mainstay under Antonio Conte this season. He has started 21 of Spurs' 28 Premier League matches and come off the bench in another four and has made 37 appearances in total for the club this season.

Davies has also had an impact as a left wing-back after having previously played on the left of the back three for much of the season and his form down the flank has kept Ivan Perisic out of the starting line-up.

Another problem that Spurs could face with Davies' injury is that with Conte's time at the club expected to come to an end the next manager could revert the team back to using a back four. Unfortunately Davies was the club's only fit left-back, with Ryan Sessegnon currently recovering from his own hamstring injury and Perisic a wing-back or winger rather than a left-back.

Any potential new manager could be forced to switch the right-sided Emerson Royal over to the other flank or play left-footed centre-back Clement Lenglet as a left-back.

Davies joins a Tottenham injury list that currently contains Richarlison, Hugo Lloris, Rodrigo Bentancur, Yves Bissouma and Sessegnon.
