Belfast community's anger after burned out car found at primary school

Police are appealing for information after a burned out car was left near a Belfast primary school on Monday morning.

The car, which has been completely destroyed by flames, was abandoned on the Cairnmartin Road, which is used for those travelling to and from Forthriver Primary School.

Speaking to Belfast Live, DUP councillor Nicola Verner said local people were left angry this morning.

"I was shocked to see this burnt out vehicle abandoned in close proximity to a local primary school," Nicola added.

"This was hugely disruptive to traffic on a busy Monday morning. Residents who live in the area are angry that they have woken up to such a scene in what is normally a quiet area."

Inspector Moutray said: “Police received a report at approximately 2.15am that a car had been set alight on the Cairnmartin Road. Our colleagues from the Northern Ireland Fire and Service attended and the blaze was extinguished.

"Our enquiries are ongoing and we are appealing for anyone who might have information which may assist the investigation to contact police on 101 quoting reference number 124 31/01/22.

"A report can also be submitted online using the non-emergency reporting form via www.psni.police.uk/makeareport/. You can also contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or online at www.crimestoppers-uk.org."
