Beetlejuice Sequel Confirms Absence Of Original Character In New Update

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice sequel excludes Jeffrey Jones due to legal troubles.

A new update for Beetlejuice Beetlejuice reveals that one main character from the original 1988 horror comedy movie will not be returning in the upcoming Tim Burton-helmed sequel. The classic film featured a recently deceased couple enlisting the help of Michael Keaton's eccentric bio-exorcist, Beetlejuice, to scare off a wealthy family from moving into their former rural home.

The Beetlejuice Beetlejuice cast for the sequel includes Jenna Ortega, Monica Belucci, Justin Theroux, Willem Dafoe, and Burn Gorman. The latest trailer confirms that Jeffrey Jones, who played the Deetz family patriarch Charles in the original movie, will not be part of the sequel. This decision follows Jones' legal troubles, as he was arrested in 2002 for solicitation and possession of child pornography and is a registered sex offender.

While a character's death would not necessarily prevent their return, the trailer indicates that Charles has passed away in the sequel. This development aligns with the movie's narrative, explaining his absence by establishing that he has moved on from the realm of the living.

The synopsis of Beetlejuice Beetlejuice hints at a family tragedy that reunites the Deetz family, likely triggered by Charles' death. The story will focus on Lydia's daughter, Astrid, played by Jenna Ortega, who exhibits a rebellious streak. Alongside Lydia and her stepmother Delia, portrayed by Catherine O'Hara, the film will explore the dynamics between three generations of the Deetz family.

While the absence of Charles and the Maitland spirits (Alec Baldwin and Geena Davis) reduces the number of returning characters from the original, the sequel's expansion on its cast offers new avenues for storytelling. With Michael Keaton reprising his role as Beetlejuice and the addition of fresh faces, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice promises to deliver an engaging continuation of the beloved franchise after a 36-year hiatus.

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice serves as the sequel to the iconic Tim Burton film that blended horror and comedy, featuring Michael Keaton and Winona Ryder in memorable roles. The upcoming sequel reintroduces Keaton as the mischievous ghost Beetlejuice, now accompanied by Jenna Ortega in a new character.
