Beauty salons, tattooists and tanning shops can open next week

Beauticians, tattooists and tanning salons in England can reopen from Monday in the latest easing of the lockdown.

Culture Secretary Oliver Dowden told a Downing Street press conference on Thursday: “Having allowed hairdressers to reopen, beauticians, tattooists, spas, tanning salons and other close contact services can now do the same, I’m pleased to say, from Monday.

“Of course that will be subject to some restrictions on particularly high-risk services.”

Many non-essential business were able to reopen last Saturday, July 4, for the first time since lockdown began in mid-March.

Salon owners were left disappointed as they had expected to be allowed to reopen at the same time as hairdressers, pubs and restaurants, but now they only have a few days to wait until they can open their doors.

Oliver Dowden made a series of announcements at the briefing (PA)

Mr Dowden said for months now our lives have been on hold.

He also announced that outdoor pools will be allowed to reopen from Saturday, with gyms allowed to reopen from July 25 in England.

Separate arrangements are made in the devolved governments of Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, and the announcement applies to England only.

Mr Dowden urged people "to get out there and to play their part."

“It’s over to all of you to help the country recover safely," he added.
