Beauty queen dies after botched bum enlargement surgery left 'fat in her lungs'

A beauty queen has died after a botched buttocks enlargement operation left her in a coma for months.

Onwuzuligbo Nneka Miriam, referred to as "Sparkle", wanted the procedure to transfer fat from her hips to her buttocks for her beauty contests.

But an alleged blunder put the woman in a coma on December 31, 2018, in Lagos, Nigeria.

She remained fighting for her life at Vedic Hospital, reports claim.

However, she's since died of injuries linked to the bum surgery, MSN claim.

Medical reports supposedly claim fat had entered Onwuzuligbo Nneka's lungs.

Onwuzuligbo Nneka came mightily close to winning the Face of Democracy Transformation in Nigeria, an annual contest which celebrates pageant diversity.

Beauty queen blackmailed wealthy jeweller for £34,000 with secret naked photos

She narrowly missed out in 2013, but since claimed she won.

Alexander Ajagbonno, who organises the competition, has today expressed his regret at the death.

Politicians in Nigeria have also paid tribute to the model.

"Just heard about the ex-beauty queen who died during a buttock enlargement procedure in Lagos.

"So Sad. And what a terrible way to go.

"Those that are not satisfied with their buttocks must beware. Vanity upon vanity! RIP," wrote the country's former minister of aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode.

Others shared their sadness at "Sparkle"'s death.

It comes as a model in China remains fighting for her life after collapsing.

Alisa Mitrova, 21, fainted on the catwalk during a gruelling seven-month arrangement on tiny pay.

She was wrongly diagnosed with chickenpox at first but now doctors say she has bacterial meningitis .

Her heartbroken mum Lina, 45, said: "Now all we pray about is that she survives.

"We don’t ask for anything else."
