Bears WR Allen Robinson plans to report for minicamp

One offensive player that has been noticeably absent during the Bears’ voluntary Organized Team Activities is wide receiver Allen Robinson, who Chicago placed the franchise tag on earlier this offseason.

But as the Bears prepare to open mandatory minicamp on Tuesday, it looks like Robinson is ready to report to duty, ending fears about a possible holdout.

Robinson shared a video of his offseason training, which has been away from Halas Hall, with the caption: “When it’s time to battle, I’m the first one at the doeee!!!”

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport quote tweeted with his own response: “The Bears franchised WR is in the building…”

The Suntimes‘ Jason Lieser confirmed as much:

Despite coming off back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons — with inconsistent quarterback play, mind you — Robinson remains without a long-term extension.

Unfortunately, both sides remained deadlocked, and the last contract negotiations happened last September, which doesn’t bode well for reaching an agreement ahead of the July 15 deadline. After then, Robinson will play out 2021 on the $18 million franchise tag.

With the drafting of Justin Fields, the hope is that Chicago can lock down their best offensive player and give their young quarterback a dependable target for the foreseeable future.
