The Bears traded with a division rival to draft Tulsa edge rusher Trevis Gipson on Saturday.
The Bears entered Saturday without a fourth-round pick. Their No. 163 selection was the first of five selections slated for the draft’s final day — but they traded a 2021 fourth-round pick to the Vikings for the No. 155 pick. They still own Pick 163.
The 6-3, 261-pound Gipson led the Golden Hurricane with eight sacks and 15 tackles for loss as a senior. He had four sacks and nine tackles for loss — and an amazing five forced fumbles — as a junior. The Cedar Hill, Texas native started 23 games over the last two seasons of his college career after starting once over the first two.
Gipson will compete for playing time behind starting outside linebackers Khalil Mack and Robert Quinn. Barkevious Mingo and Isaiah Irving were slated to be the second string.

The Bears entered the day with one fifth-rounder, two sixth-round picks (No. 196 and 200) and two seventh-rounders. (No. 226 and 233).
Gipson was the Bears’ third selection of the draft after adding Notre Dame tight end Cole Kmet and Utah cornerback Jaylon Jackson in the second round.
