Bears scouting report: Packers WR Jordy Nelson

Nov. 08--Information for this report was obtained from NFL scouts.

Jordy Nelson has experienced a little bit of feast or famine this season. The wide receiver is putting together a fine year as Aaron Rodgers' go-to target with 50 receptions for 737 yards and six touchdowns. But 37 of his catches have come in four games while he has been a minimal factor in the other four with 13 receptions.

Nelson had 10 catches for 108 yards and two touchdowns in the first meeting with the Bears and made 10 grabs for 161 yards in the Week 17 meeting last season at Soldier Field. The 6-foot-3, 217-pound seventh-year pro signed a $43 million, four-year contract extension before training camp that included an $11.5 million signing bonus.

"He didn't do as much against Detroit or New Orleans this season, I know that," one scout said. "Green Bay has struggled against two-man (Cover-2 with man coverage underneath) all year because the safety is sitting over the top and that really takes away the deep curl route they like because a defender is just standing there.

"The Bears don't play two-man. Nelson is an excellent route runner and a lot of people don't realize he's 6-3. He can run, too, and he has a huge catch radius and that allows Rodgers to complete all those back-shoulder throws. He has excellent hands too."
