Nov. 15--The Chicago Bears failed to release an updated injury report per NFL rules on Saturday but they did inform the Rams that running back Matt Forte and outside linebacker Pernell McPhee would not play in Sunday's game at the Edward Jones Dome.
NFL rules state that clubs must release an updated injury report in the event a player not listed as out on the injury report does not travel for a road game. In this instance, Forte, McPee and wide receiver Eddie Royal did not make the trip to St. Louis. Royal was listed as out on the injury report released by the Bears at 3 p.m. Friday.
A Rams official confirmed the Bears alerted them on Saturday that Forte and McPhee would not play and the team also informed the league office. That, however, did not completely satisfy the NFL's rules involving the injury report in order to "maintain the integrity of the game." An NFL official said the league planned to investigate the matter.
The rule states "for players not already designated as 'out,' clubs are to notify local media, their opponent's PR Director, and their Conference Football Communications Director of any player on their injury report who does not travel to a road game due to injury. Such a player is considered 'out,' thus necessitating this update."
Forte and McPhee were both classified as questionable on the injury report released by the team Friday. Forte was listed as limited in practice all week. McPhee did not practice during the week. Both players have knee injuries.
