Bears head coach Matt Nagy will return to calling plays in 2021, he revealed Friday.
Offensive coordinator Bill Lazor took over those duties for the last seven regular-season games last season, with generally positive results. The Bears scored 30 or more points in four-straight games in December, winning three of them.
The Bears lost to the Vikings in Lazor’s debut and, following a bye, got blown out in Green Bay in Mitch Trubisky’s first game back from injury. Following a home loss to the Lions, the Bears won three-straight games before losing to the Packers in the season finale and to the Saints in the playoffs.
Nagy tried to downplay his decision to call plays, saying it wasn’t a big deal compared to the work the Bears have been doing in free agency and draft preparation.
Lazor called plays for the Dolphins and Bengals before joining the Bears last offseason.
