Be careful if you copy the Valentine's Day TikTok trend that may cost you £2,500

Some might say you can't put a price on love when it comes to Valentine's Day but, be warned. If you decide to celebrate February 14 next week by copying a date night idea currently trending on TikTok, it could cost you £2,500!

Movie night car dates proved popular on social media during the first lockdown and TikTok videos of such romantic rendezvous continue to attract billions of views, reports the Liverpool Echo. Most involve driving to a scenic spot and kitting your car out with blankets, pillows and snacks, watching a movie and then snuggling down for a night under the stars.

This, in itself, could land you in trouble however, as wild camping is illegal in most parts of England and Wales without gaining permission from the landowner - a law that also applies to tents and camper vans. In reality, though, you might just be asked to leave the area, rather than incurring a fine.

But, should you decide to drink alcohol in your car during your date and exceed the legal limit for driving, even though you have no intention of moving the car whilst under the influence, you could still be arrested on suspicion of being "drunk in charge of a powered vehicle" and face a fine of £2,500. A conviction could also lead to a driving ban with police not required to prove whether those in the car plan to drive it or not.
