BBC Strictly's James Bye and Amy Dowden send message to fans after public vote

Strictly's James Bye and Amy Dowden issued a message to fans after they ended up at the second-from-bottom of the leader board on Sunday - but were the first couple to be announced as safe thanks to the public vote.

EastEnders actor James hasn't exactly set the leader board alight with his scores so far this series. He and dance partner Amy performed the foxtrot to the soap's theme tune on Saturday - but the judges weren't too kind with their comments or their scores.

They earned 26 out of a possible 40 points, putting James and Amy second bottom of the week five standings. But the pair were the first couple to be called safe by Strictly host Tess Daly during Sunday's results show.

Taking to Instagram, James shared a photo of the couple celebrating their move into the next week, as well as a video of them thanking fans for their support. He captioned the post: "Well, that was emotional! Thank you to everyone who voted.

"What an incredible night celebrating 100 years of the @bbc and to represent @bbceastenders at the same time was a dream come true! (shame about the scores, but you can’t win them all). Thank you all again."

In the video, James said: "I just wanted to say a massive, massive thank you to every single one of you who took the time to vote for us on Saturday night. I think you can see from the picture that I've put up just how much it means for us to be in this competition.

"We are having the best time regardless of what the judges are saying... Honestly, Saturday night was an emotional one." He added that he would 'never forget' performing the 'beautiful' Eastenders routine.

Amy said that she was 'so proud' of James and that he was 'what Strictly was all about' before thanking the actor for 'dancing so beautifully.' Concluding the video, James urged fans to 'keep on supporting us' and promised that the pair were giving it 'a million percent.'

Amy then dropped a hint of what fans can expect at the weekend. "There is everything in this routine this week," she said. James added: "This week is full-on, they're pushing me to the limit!"
