BBC Strictly It Takes Two viewers baffled by Matt Goss' appearance on show as Nadiya appears solo in studio

Fans of Strictly Come Dancing were left baffled when they tuned into the spin-off show. Strictly - It Takes Two was back on BBC2 on Monday night (October 17) with Rylan Clark chatting to the latest couple to exit the BBC One dance contest as well as other couples who started training for next weekend.

The TV and radio star was due to be joined in the studio by Matt Goss and Nadiya Bychkova following their elimination from the competition on Sunday night. The Bros singer and his professional partner found themselves in the dreaded dance-off alongside Kym Marsh and Graziano Di Prima.

The 54-year-old re-performed his jive to All Shook Up by Paul McCartney after failing to impress the judging panel on Saturday evening (October 15) when he and Nadiya scored just 20 points. Meanwhile, Kym, 46, and Graziano impressed again with their second performance of their samba to Volare by Gipsy Kings.

After both couples had danced for a second time, the judges delivered their verdicts, with all four opting to save Kym and Graziano. During his brief exit chat with Strictly co-host Tess Daly, Matt broke into tears as he thanked everyone for welcoming him back to the UK after spending time in the States while he also said he wished his mum and sister could have been here to see him complete his latest challenge.

As ever, the departing couple were due to appear on It Takes Two to reflect on their time in the competition as well as chat about their exit, but viewers were confused to see only Nadiya in the studio, with a swarve-looking Matt appearing via video link instead.

But Rylan, 33, was quick to explain: "Now, unfortunately Matt sadly can’t be with us tonight because he’s recording with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. But we do have the gorgeous Nadiya on the sofa. And by the power of technology, we should be able to link up with Mr. Goss now!"

As they began to wrap up the interview, Rylan shared how he was devastated that he couldn’t give the 80s pop legend a big hug, with Matt explaining: "I’m currently recording with the Royal Philharmonic…" to which Rylan joked: "I know, you’re doing all right, man!" He added: "Listen, we’re glad you’ve come back to us because it’s been a pleasure having you on the show, it really has. My biggest regret is I don’t get a cuddle tonight!"

Despite there being a reason for him being 'missing' from the studio, viewers were still baffled by Matt's 'no-show'. @lizayoung2 joked: "Is Matt under a desk too. Oh he has shown up #Strictly #ItTakesTwo," referring to the latest political fall out with the Prime Minister Liz Truss. @strictlyblog posted: "I was worried Matt hadn’t come to #ItTakesTwo then, Zoom saves the day once again!" @ComeDanking joked: "Matt, imprisoned in the digital realm for the crime of rampant and unashamed illegal hat-wearing."

Speaking on It Takes Two, Matt told Rylan that the messages the pair had received in the 24 hours after their departure had been "unbelievable". He said: "The British public have made me feel so safe and incredibly well received, and at the end of the day that’s all I can ask for,” he said.

"I really feel a deeper connection with this country and the people, and the messages they’ve left me and Nadiya in the last 24 hours have been unbelievable. It’s touched my heart. I didn’t really want to look at them (throughout) the show, I didn’t dare."
