BBC Strictly fans ask 'what on earth' after 'dubious' song choices

Strictly Come Dancing fans asked "what on earth" as they were distracted by "dubious" song choices.

Viewers took umbrage with the theme for James Bye and Fleur East's dances given it was Halloween week. Dressed as a beekeeper, EastEnders star James performed a Charleston to Bumble Bee by LaVern Baker. Professional partner Amy Dowden, dressed as a bee, celebrated after the dance saying: "I'm buzzing. Up until dress run, one of those lifts actually didn't happen. He did such a good job."

Judge Motsi Mabuse said: "What's great - your personality shines through. This week you showed us another side. You risked more. This is another week and another improvement." After head judge Shirley Ballas got up to show the actor how to add more energy into his performance, James said: "There's a place for you on EastEnders."

Anton Du Beke got booed for his comments, saying: "You do tend to throw Amy down rather than place her down. It's a little bit throwaway, I don't tend to see the finish that you do. It was a very good effort, well done."

Fleur East performed performed a Salsa to Beyonce's Break My Soul with professional partner Vito Coppola. Head judge Shirley Ballas said: "There is no disputing your power my darling," while Anton Du Beke said she was "incredible to watch".

Craig Revel Horwood said the dance was a "bit messy", but Motsi Mabuse disputed this, saying: "You bring a different type of energy."

The pair scored 32 for the dance. While viewers praised their performances, many hit out at the "confusing" theme.

Gary tweeted: "Again a dubious Halloween theme for Fleur's dance." Jaimy said: "Ok, but how exactly is this Halloween? #Strictly."

Grant said: "A great show so far BUT still confused why James danced to a bee theme?! I thought this was Halloween theme weekend?!"

Emma added: "Not quite sure what bees have to do with Halloween #strictly." Suz said: "This is a no. Really not getting the bees and Halloween link."

Beth said: "What is this song? What is this theme? What have bees got to do with Halloween? I am so confused…" And Kelly tweeted: "What on earth are these song choices and costumes today? It’s Halloween - doesn’t feel like it."
