It’s always tricky making a splash about objectives, just ask Ed Miliband about that giant stone tablet of Labour party pledges, and the BBC is no exception.
An internal poster highlighting Auntie’s 2015/16 objectives states:
“Each week, younger people spend a third of the amount of time with the BBC as people aged over 55. This year we will transform our programmes and services for younger people.”
Transform is certainly true, the probable closure of the youth-oriented channel BBC3 TV for an online-only offer is evidence of that. But that will also mean, in the BBC Trust’s words, a reduction in reach among this priority youth audience of 16- to 24-year-olds of 3% to 3.5%. A case of less is more?
