BBC pundits hail Manchester City duo after critical win over Tottenham Hotspur

Manchester City pulled off an important 1-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday afternoon as they moved above Liverpool and into first place in the Premier League .

Whilst Liverpool can respond by restoring their two-point advantage at the top by beating Cardiff City this afternoon, the Blues are safe in the knowledge that four more victories in the league will land them the title.

After a dramatic Champions League exit in midweek, it's safe to say that everyone at Man City was relieved with the victory over Spurs.

Phil Foden bagged the winner inside five minutes with a header and post-match he was earning rave reviews for his performance after scoring his first Premier League goal of his career.

Alan Shearer heaped praise on Foden when he analysed City's win over Spurs on Match of the Day.

“I think it definitely will be (the first of many). The way he takes up those positions in the box, so intelligent in the way he finds space," Shearer explained. "Second Premier League start, first Premier League goal and when he gets into this position it is no fluke he finds himself in there.

Liverpool FC great's reaction to Man City win over Spurs shows how important it was

"He gives them different options in that position - there is no doubt about that - because of his ability to do exactly that. He is ready to be let off the leash and he is ready to be a starter, there is no doubt in my mind."

But Foden was not the only Man City player earning praise from the Match of the Day pundits, with Jermaine Jenas hailing Bernardo Silva, who set up the goal for Foden.

“Pep said at the start of the season against Arsenal that he (Silva) was going to be a very important player for City this season and he is turned out to be exactly that," Jenas added. "32 appearances, most of any of the outfield players for City tells you how important. Today was another one of those performances from him. He was right at it, he had the bit between his teeth like a lot of those players did."

Manchester City fans and players strike back to send big message to Liverpool FC
