BBC hit back at Hearts v Celtic bias claims as they insist coverage was 'fair'

The BBC have rubbished suggestions they favoured Celtic during coverage of the 2020 Scottish Cup Final at Hampden.

Hearts fans were unimpressed what they perceived to be one-sided commentary and punditry during the clash, which saw Celtic clinch a fourth successive Scottish Cup.

The Championship outfit fought back from 2-0 down and then 3-2 down to take the game to penalties before suffering defeat and many Tynecastle supporters feel the coverage was aimed at Celtic fans instead.

Fans took to social media to criticise the commentary of Liam McLeod and Billy Dodds and many thought the broadcaster focused way too much on the Hoops.

But the BBC rejected that suggestion and insisted it was a balanced affair on their channel.

A spokesperson told the Daily Record: "Our extensive live coverage of this exciting final was fair to both sides."

Neil Lennon's men clinched the trophy with a 4-3 penalty win after Stephen Kinglsey and Craig Wighton both missed for Hearts.

Robbie Neilson's side impressed during the Hampden showdown and were handed the advantage when Craig Gordon saved from Ryan Christie.

But they couldn't take advantage and Conor Hazard made two saves for the Glasgow side to win the match.
