BBC Gentleman Jack series 2: episodes, full cast, start date and time

Gentleman Jack is back for a second series - again following the life of Anne Lister, an English diarist, famous for revelations which later dubbed her as "the first modern lesbian".

The BBC One drama, which stars Suranne Jones, premiered in 2019 to critical acclaim. A new trailer has shown a glimpse of what's to come for Anne after she married her lover Ann Walker at the end of season one.

Liverpool was used for filming the show, with the Town Hall and Falkner Square in the Georgian Quarter taken back to 1832. The popular locations were filled with stunning Georgian era costumes and 19th century carriages amongst other period props.

Anne was from a wealthy minor landowning family in Yorkshire but despite this was renowned for her charm and dressing head-to-toe in black. She challenged the status quo by rarely taking part in activities that, in society’s eyes, were for women and quickly became known as "Gentleman Jack" to locals.

Series two will see a potential love triangle. The trailer shows the return of Anne's former lover Mariana Lawton make a dramatic return. She tells Anne “I’m not the other woman. She is."

How many episodes of Gentleman Jack are there?

As with series one, there are eight episode in series two.

The first episode of the second series airs on Sunday, April 10, from 9pm, with episode two at the same time the following Sunday.

The following six episodes will air weekly at the same time.

All episodes are expected to be available on BBC iPlayer shortly after the first episode airs.
