BBC Call the Midwife star Georgie Glen teases what's in store for series finale

Call the Midwife star Georgie Glen has revealed she is "terrified" of giving away any spoilers that might ruin the series finale following the recent cliffhanger ending of the Sunday night drama.

The penultimate episode of series 11 - which aired on February 13 - saw scenes of a shocking train crash and two of the show's most-loved characters Dr Turner and Sister Julienne now have their fates hanging in the balance.

Many fans are desperate to know if they will survive as the characters have been part of the show since it first started in 2012 but Georgie - who plays Miss Higgins - said she had been warned not to give anything away during her appearance on Lorraine on Friday, February 18 ahead of the finale.

Speaking to Christine Lampard, the actress said: "To be honest, when I saw the episode myself, I was shocked and I knew it was coming. So I think the way it just evolved and happened at the end of the episode was shocking. Didn't see it was about to happen.

"I'm terrified I say anything that gives anything away. I've had the riot act read to me but I've got to be terribly careful what I say."

Georgie went on to add: "Obviously that drama will continue to unfold throughout the final episode and it has repercussions throughout because everyone has to put their fears to one side, roll up their sleeves, get on, leave their personal lives aside.

"Sister Hilda- played by the lovely Fenella Woolgar - is dealing with a delivery over at the maternity home and knows nothing about it and of course that is the lady who is the wife of the train driver, so they know nothing until Miss Higgins turns up."

Georgie Glen joined the iconic period drama series in the Christmas special in 2018 and works as a receptionist in the GP surgery alongside Dr Turner.

Christine - who has been standing in for Lorraine this week - asked the star: "So you play her [Miss Higgins] like you know her?"

"I feel I do know her," Georgie added. "Well she's been part of my life for four years now. I'm a relative new girl in Call the Midwife but I do know her. I feel she's a very comfortable fit for me."

The finale of Call the Midwife series 11 will air on BBC One on Sunday, February 20 from 8pm.

Lorraine weekdays at 9am on ITV and ITV Hub.
