The eleventh series of Call The Midwife has kicked off with returning stars and new cast members to bring the heart-warming stories it is so loved for.
The BBC has teased that this might be the last series for some popular characters and there will be eight episodes in the new series.

New cast members include Megan Cusack in one of her first major roles and fan favourite Helen George is back in the role of Nurse Trixie Franklin.
Laura Main as Shelagh Turner
As one of the original characters since series one Laura Main, who secretly split from her fellow actor partner, has played Shelagh Turner since 2012.
Originally Shelagh was a nun but gave this up to marry Dr Turner who she now has adopted and biological children with.
Helen George as Nurse Trixie Franklin
Some fans suspect that Helen George could be in her last series of the show after she filmed a lot of the scenes pregnant and will not appear in the final two episodes.
She recently hit back at criticism of her filming while pregnant.
She plays Nurse Trixie Franklin, who has also been in the show since series one and battled alcohol addiction.
Megan Cusack as Nancy Corrigan
New to the series is Megan Cusack playing trainee midwife Nancy Corrigan who is Irish and was raised by Catholic nuns in an orphanage.
This is a big role for Megan who has previously starred in Doctors and Chekhov's The Cherry Orchard.
Miriam Margoyles as Mother Mildred
Starring on and off in the show since the 2018 Christmas special is well-loved actress Miriam Margoyle who plays Mother Mildred.
Originally Mother Mildred was Sister Mildred but was chosen by the nuns to be their new Mother Superior. Miriam is known for her roles in the Harry Potter films and as the nurse in Romeo and Juliet.
Olly Rix as Matthew Aylward
With a more tragic story Olly Rix plays Matthew Aylward who loses his wife to acute myeloid leukaemia and is left widowed with a baby.
Matthew continues to grow closer to Trixie in series 11 and previously Ollie has starred in the BBC drama Our Girl and The Musketeers.
Judy Parfitt as Sister Monica Jane
From the very first episode where she opened the doors to Nonnatus House Judy Parfitt has played the well-loved Sister Monica Jane.
Aged 84 Judy has starred in many TV shows and films including Girl With A Pearl Earring and The Jewel In The Crown which she received Bafta nominations for.
Leonie Elliott as Nurse Lucille Robinson
Starring in the show since series seven as the first West Indian midwife to join Nonnatus House, Leonie Elliott has played Lucille Robinson since 2018.
Playing Lucille has been Loenie’s biggest role to date and before this she appeared in the Netflix hit Black Mirror and the BBC medical drama Casualty.
Linda Bassett as Nurse Phyllis Crane
Scout leader and personal friend to Trixie, as well as being a nurse, Nurse Phyllis Crane is played by Linda Bassett.
Linda joined the show in series four and has previously starred in Calendar Girls and Sense & Sensibility.
Jenny Agutter as Sister Julienne
Second in charge to Mother Mildred is Sister Julienne who is played by Jenny Agutter since the show began.
Jenny’s other credits include Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Avengers Assemble. You can read about her real-life Christmas Day birth drama here.
Stephen McGann as Dr Patrick Turner
Starring in Call The Midwife since the first series is Stephen McGann as Dr Patrick Turner, who helps the nuns and midwives with more complicated cases and births.
Married to the show's creator and writer Heidi Thomas, Stephen has also starred in the ITV soap Emmerdale and is related to Doctor Who actor Paul McGann.
Cliff Parisi plays Fred Buckle
Local handyman and shopkeeper Fred Buckle is played by Cliff Parisi who is best known for his role as Rick Peterson in EastEnders and took part in the 2019 series of I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here!
Fred is always prepared to help the midwives and has a family of his own in the series, including wife Violet.
Annabelle Apsion as Violet Buckle
Married to Fred and the local dressmaker and councillor for Popular is Violet Buckle played by Annabelle Apsion.
Previously Annabelle has been in Shameless and Solider Solider as well as appearing in Holby City and Doc Martin.
Daniel Laurie as Reggie Jackson
Reggie Jackson, played by Daniel Laurie, is first seen in Call The Midwife in series six when his mother died and he is orphaned. He is now under the care of Fred and Violet Buckle.
Daniel has also had other roles including starring in Vera and Finding Alice and as Jamie in the TV series Stella.
Dame Vanessa Redgrave as the voice of Jennifer Worth
Narrating the show is Dame Vanessa Redgrave in the role of Jessica Raine, a real midwife whose books the TV shows are based on.
Better known for films Dame Redgrave has starred in Atonement, Mary Queen of Scots and she has won an Oscar, a BAFTA and two Golden Globes.
Georgie Glen as Miss Higgins
Playing Dr Turner's receptionist Miss Higgins is Georgie Glen who is known to be strict and stern but has a heart of gold.
Georgie has starred in The Crown as Princess Diana's grandmother Lady Fermoy and she is also known for her role of Audrey McFall in Waterloo Road.
Fenella Woolgar as Sister Hilda
Joining in series eight is the practical, enthusiastic and, on occasion, slightly bossy Sister Hilda played by Fenella Woolgar.
Previously Fenella has starred in War & Peace and played Agatha Christie in Doctor Who.
Ella Bruccoleri as Sister Frances
Also joining in series eight was Ella Bruccoleri as Sister Frances who has grown in confidence as a nun throughout the show.
Sister Frances is one of Ella's biggest roles and she has also starred in The Last Kingdom and the TV series Genius.
Zephryn Taitte as Cyril Robinson
Local car mechanic and civil engineering student Cyril Robinson is played by Zephryn Taitte, he is also married to Lucille in the show.
Performing on stage Zephryn has been in A Doll's House, Trust, and The Tempest alongside TV performances in Doctors and The Hour.
