BBC Breakfast fans fuming at coverage of heatwave

BBC Breakfast viewers have complained after what one person termed "hysterical" reporting. Slamming the heatwave weather report, social media users aired their views.

The morning show was hosted by Rachel Burden and Ben Thompson, who went on to introduce weather presenter Louise Lear for the forecast on Monday, July 18. Louise was sharing news of the heatwave and impending potential record-breaking temperatures.

Louise said: "I'm going to start off with what we had as a maximum yesterday. We actually had 29 degrees in London yesterday (July 17) and when I was walking around in the afternoon, it was too hot for me by then.

"And I was thinking, 'We've got another at least 10 Celsius to go on top of that. So just to illustrate the point - it is getting hotter. The extreme heat is expected to arrive on Monday. There is a possibility that we are likely to see 41 degrees, and that will break the all-time high.

"So we have this red weather warning out for this extreme heat, and these are the areas that that covers. The amber warning actually comes into force today with temperatures in excess of 30 degrees in some areas, it's still very hot indeed - and that covers the whole of England, Wales and into southern Scotland as well.

"So please keep abreast of the forecast, please look after yourself, look after your pets and perhaps look out for some neighbours as well."

But fans complained over the heatwave dominating the news agenda. Birmingham Live reported that viewers were saying there were more important stories to cover. One social media user said: "#BBCBreakfast surely there’s more news than the hot weather! Okay, we get the point, be sensible, stay hydrated and do not go out unless you have to stop sensationalising it and just report, and bring us other news. There are other important issues we want to hear about too." Another branded the weather report "hysterical".
