Bayern Munich offer David Alaba transfer update amid Manchester United and Man City speculation

Bayern Munich board member Oliver Kahn has admitted that the club must 'accept' that it's a strong possibility David Alaba will leave the Allianz Arena in 2021.

Manchester United and Manchester City have been linked with a move for Alaba who is now entering the last few months of his contract and as a result can start to negotiate a pre-contract agreement with  from January.

To avoid losing him for nothing in the summer, Bayern may be tempted to sell the Austrian for a pittance of his actual worth in the new year which has put a number of European clubs on high alert.

Despite playing a key role in the German giants' treble triumph last season, negotiations over a new deal have been difficult and Kahn has resigned himself to losing the star defender.

"At the moment I don't know how that should happen," the legendary former goalkeeper told Sport Bild when asked if Alaba may stay. "We rolled out the red carpet for David Alaba and went to our limits. David and especially his agent, Pini Zahavi, have not walked that red carpet. It seems like he's looking around. We have to accept that."

Alaba, who has won everything there is to win in Germany including the Champions League twice, has the versatility and quality that would appeal to any top club.

Despite their scintillating run of form, United have continued to struggle at the back and are expected to strengthen their defence further in 2021.

City, meanwhile, may have spent big money on Ruben Dias in the summer but their problems at left-back have continued and reinforcements in the position may be on the agenda in the coming year.
