Bayer Leverkusen 'enter race' for Kristoffer Ajer and have 'already approached' his agent

German cracks Bayer Leverkusen are the latest big side linked with a move for Celtic 's Kristoffer Ajer.

The Bundesliga giants are keen to strengthen their defensive ranks in the close season and are reportedly keen on reuniting Ajer with his former Hoops team-mate Jeremie Frimpong.

Earlier this month, we told you how Newcastle United have been linked with a move for Ajer, with the Norwegian's contract at Parkhead expiring in 12 months time - and there's no sign of the 23-year-old agreeing fresh terms.

And now Leverkusen, who finished sixth in the German top-flight last season to seal a place in next season's Europa League, are looking to tempt Ajer away from Glasgow.

The Glasgow Times are reporting that Leverkusen are not only in the race but have already approached Ajer's representatives to thrash out a deal, and it looks as though it won't be long before the classy centre-back is heading pastures new.

Ajer has developed into a key player for Celtic since moving to Parkhead in the summer of 2016, winning three Premiership titles and three Scottish Cups to date.
