Battlefield 6 drops out of the top-10 most played console games in the U.S. — but Call of Duty is doing just fine

Box art for Battlefield 6 and Black Ops 7 side by side.

For a game that the internet would have you believe everyone hates, Call of Duty still seems to be doing pretty well for itself in the U.S. At least that's according to the latest Circana data.

There are some takeaways we can gather from the data, which you can see in the post below from Circana's Mat Piscatella.

The first is that on console, Call of Duty is, still, doing really well, trailing only to Fortnite. The second is that, currently, Battlefield 6, which outsold Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, is not doing so well. Sales are one thing, but on console, right now, the players are not playing it.

Circana Player Engagement Tracker - US Top 10 Titles by Total Weekly Active Users (Not Concurrent) - W/E Jan 17, 2026- The Marvel Rivals Season 6: Night at the Museum content drop on Jan 16th helped lift the title to 6th in US weekly active users on PlayStation and to 8th on Xbox.

The Steam information is much rosier for Battlefield 6, though we know that it's also the least played platform for Call of Duty right now.

I don't play Battlefield 6 myself, I've never really enjoyed the franchise, and aside from a little time in the beta and on REDSEC, I haven't touched it. But I'm also not going to wish its downfall, because competition should make everything better for all of us.

But given the discourse online, you would be forgiven for thinking Call of Duty is struggling. Is it doing as well as previous years? Doesn't look like it. But it's always been a console heavy hitter, and it's still doing well. Take Twitch viewership, also, as another metric of interest. Call of Duty is signficantly outperforming Battlefield 6 here, right now.

And sure, Call of Duty is three titles. But you could say the same about Fortnite with all the different game experiences under its total umbrella.

EA needs to swing for the fences with its next season in Battlefield 6, though, that much seems clear. It's already been delayed, and without content for people to play, they won't keep playing.

Criticize Call of Duty all you want, but Season 01 has been stacked with limited time game modes, events, and challenges across Black Ops 7 and Warzone. Circana also notes the recent Marvel Rivals content drop helped it gain some spots, so, you know, make it and they will play.

Let's also shout out the old warhorse, GTA V, which is STILL one of the most played games on console more than 12 years after it launched. Maybe I'll play through it one more time before GTA 6 (hopefully) arrives.
