Battle of the Super Eaters sees crazed Brits devour 10,000 calories in mammoth food competitions

Britain's fascinating super eating competitions are to be revealed in a new documentary.

Competitors are set to battle it out cramming mountains of food down their mouths in what is becoming one of the world's fastest growing and most controversial "sports".

In America, unsurprisingly, it’s a massive spectator event, with crowds of people turning up and millions watching from home as super eaters munch their way through 10,000 calories in one go – at a jaw-dropping speed.

But is it taking off in Britain?

The Channel 4 documentary follows three of our country's top competitors as they take on food challenges against the clock, battling against each other and striving for international fame.

Fitness fanatic and "Girl Vs Food" Leah Shutkever, 28, doesn’t look like a super eater. She goes to the gym five times a week and takes competitive eating as seriously as if it were an Olympic sport.

She can wolf down 12 glazed doughnuts or an entire Domino’s pizza in under a minute.

“I don’t have that thing in me that says, ‘Stop eating, you’re full’,” she says.

Her arch rival is the UK’s No 1 competitive eater Adam Moran, 33, who has nearly 600,000 subscribers on his YouTube channel Beard Meats Food.

He gave up a job in stockbroking to go pro and can put away 10lb of food in under an hour.

“It’s fun to say I’m the best at something in my country,” he says.

But how will Leah and Adam react to a new kid in town – 20-year-old Kyle Gibson, who is hungry for recognition?

Battle of the Super Eaters: 3000 calories a minute, will air on Channel 4 at 9pm on Thursday.
