Ashbourne Giants u21 15 v Dublin City Hurricanes 5
Another midweek encounter in Baseball Ireland’s B division saw the Meath team take on the Canes in the International Baseball Centre, Ashbourne.
The visitors got off to a quick start with Dan Babacan hitting a triple to left field before being brought home by another sweet hit from Roberto Martinez to take a lead at the top of the first.
Youngster David Linn started the home team off by getting a walk and stealing to second before he managed to get back home thanks to flyballs hit to the outfield by both Ryan 'Scarecrow' Wiebe and Fionn Gallahar Hall making the game all square going into the second inning.
Neither team scored again until the third when the Giants got 4 home started off by David McCarthy followed by man of the match David Linn, Scarecrow Wiebe and Patrick O.G. Mitchell.
There was no stopping the youngsters after that and they managed to put another 11 runs together before winning the game on a mercy rule in the sixth inning 15 runs to 5.
With David Linn scoring 5 runs, Wiebe getting a hat trick, David McCarthy getting a brace and youngster Corbin Cronin scoring amongst others the Giants demonstrated that they can put numbers on the board from the top to bottom of their order.
Their next game is in Corkagh once again against the Canes in a tie that’ll undoubtedly see La Famila’s B team wanting to even things up in the series.
