Barry Robson defends Aberdeen after Kris Boyd Rangers criticism

Barry Robson has issued a stern response to Kris Boyd after the pundit suggested Aberdeen will be more motivated against Rangers than in the previous outing against Celtic.

The Pittodrie side suffered a nightmare 6-0 defeat at the hands of the league leaders last time out.

However, they'll aim to rediscover their form as Rangers visit Pittodrie this weekend.

And Robson has shut down Boyd's theory on an added motivation for Aberdeen against Rangers.

The manager simply stated: “If you know me you know I want to win every game. That what my teams are all about. That’s it. We try and win every game we can.”

Boyd had stated: "It's embarrassing. We speak there about Aberdeen's record off the back of European football. If you are a big club you have to perform in Europe.

"You have to find a way to do it. You can speak about the squads might not be at the same level.

"But there were a few changes there today. There weren't any chances against Kilmarnock and they were as bad then as they were today.

"But I'm sure Barry (Robson) will have absolutely no problem getting them up for it in the next game, that's for sure. Because Rangers are in town, fact."

Despite a 3-1 victory at Ibrox earlier this season, Robson has insisted there are no guarantees over a positive result for Aberdeen as he cited a style change under Philippe Clement.

Robson added: “It guarantees you nothing. You need to perform, bring your A Game and everybody has to be at their best.

"They need to play above 90 percent and if they do that then we give ourselves an opportunity. The fans are huge for us and help us when they are at home. They can be a huge help to us.

“It is a massive game against Rangers. It’s another big game for us. Clement has come in and gone a bit more direct as a team. They want to play forward. We’ve seen that in the way they play. They seem to want to come after you a lot more.

"As Rangers teams are, they will be very difficult to play against and I am sure Sunday won’t be any different.”
