Barry Ferguson Rangers 'surgery' domino effect as he lists transfer musts in Ross Wilson 'exit' response

Barry Ferguson reckons Rangers will want to replace Ross Wilson 'as quickly as possible' should the Sporting Director leave Ibrox.

Wilson, who has been criticised for Rangers' recruitment by some sections of the Ibrox fanbase, is according to the Athletic a target of English Premier League side Nottingham Forest. The chiefs at the City Ground could be looking to appoint the Scot to a 'senior football role' with Michael Beale previously saying he was 'well aligned' with Wilson ahead of the summer.

The 39-year-old previously worked at Watford, Huddersfield Town and Southampton before joining proceedings in Glasgow. But Wilson has been criticised for the club's recruitment policy which Ferguson says will be a big focus this summer. A banner was unveiled against Motherwell last month with the caption 'Time for Change' aimed at Wilson.

And former Ibrox captain Ferguson believes there is no time to waste should the supremo leave because Rangers must press on with new recruits ahead of a 'big summer'.

He told Go Radio: "I imagine if Forest do want him that Rangers will want it done quickly because its a big summer ahead.

"There's a bit of surgery needing done. They are probably down the line with some of their recruitment but if he leaves I would imagine it will be done as quickly as possible and get some in to replace him to get these deals over the line. It's going to be a busy next few weeks and months on the transfer front.

"The priority in the summer is the front three. That's where the majority of the budget should be going. In the summer Michael Beale knows the forward line, the front three, he needs to strengthen big time."
