April 09--A Murrieta golf course home once owned by baseball's home run king, Barry Bonds, has listed for sale at $4.499 million.
The property, purchased new by the slugging outfielder following his second MVP season with the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1992, was among Bonds' first forays into the California housing market, according to The Times. Bonds, having decamped to a $2.5-million home in Atherton after signing a $43.75-million pact with the San Francisco Giants in 1993, put the home on the market in 1995 for $3.2 million. It would eventually sell the following year for $2.1 million.
More recently, the home changed hands for $2.5 million in 2013. A year earlier, it went for $2.7 million and in 2010 it sold for $1.2 million, records show.
The 1.2-acre estate centers on the Mediterranean-style home reached by a long, gated driveway. Entered through a foyer with a sweeping wrought iron staircase, the 11,700-square-foot building is highlighted by 30-foot ceilings, arched doorways, large skylights and detailed molding.
Among its amenities are a home theater with a hidden projector, a dual-island kitchen, an onyx-lined office, a media room and a gym. Fifteen tablets placed throughout the two-story floor plan control lighting, sound, security and other smart features. There are six bedrooms and eight bathrooms in all.
Outdoors, the landscaped grounds center on a lagoon-style pool with a waterfall and water slide. A custom palapa with a barbecue and an outdoor living room complete the setting.
