Baron Browning set to break out for Broncos

The Denver Broncos are excited about the potential of Baron Browning, but let’s break down his career previous to the NFL and where we may be able to see him thrive in 2022. Browning was a former five-star recruit from the state of Texas who earned high school All-American honors in 2017 before committing to become a Buckeye.

Despite the insane hype surrounding his recruitment, Browning saw limited action as a freshman and only tallied 14 tackles, but did see little time in 12 games. As a sophomore, Browning started three games and racked up 24 tackles and a sack. He had a much more significant impact as a junior accumulating 43 tackles and five sacks as a middle linebacker. Browning made the somewhat shocking decision to come back for his senior year and was moved to outside linebacker, where he shined and earned third-team All-Big Ten honors.

Browning was drafted in the third round of the 2021 NFLDraft by the Denver Broncos and wasn’t expected to contribute too much, but was forced into the starting lineup on Halloween against the Washington Commanders and never looked back. Browning looked like the future at middle linebacker during his nine starts, but this off-season, the Broncos decided to move him to edge, and all of the rumors from training camp make him sound like a future game-wrecker. We all got a glimpse of Browning and his potential in his first preseason appearance against the Dallas Cowboys as he had a sack and a batted-down pass.

Browning has always been given the potential label due to his athleticism and size, but perhaps 2022 will be the year he reaches it.

We’ll continue to watch as Browning attempts to carve out a name for himself in his new role at the foot of the Rocky Mountains.
