‘Barely exercised control’: Donald Trump dispatches JD Vance into enemy territory while he plots his next move

The White House has started its campaign to promote its major legislation, with Vice President JD Vance leading the effort in northeastern Pennsylvania. The rally, which takes place in West Pittston, marks the first major event highlighting the “One Big, Beautiful Bill” since Trump signed it on Independence Day.

According to Politico, the administration chose Pennsylvania as the first stop because it’s a working-class state that helped Trump win the election. The White House plans to send various officials, including Cabinet members, across the country in the coming months to promote the law’s benefits to different audiences.

During a recent Fox News appearance, Trump urged Republicans to explain the details of the bill to the public, relying on JD Vance, who previously called Trump ‘America’s Hitler’ and ‘a cynical asshole’ to now champion his policies. “I say to people, Republicans, or anybody, explain the bill, because it’s so big and so good,” Trump said. He criticized Democrats for only complaining about the legislation and making false claims about its effects.

How the new law affects working-class Americans

Vance, whose own political positions and policies align with working-class messaging, along with Small Business Administration Administrator Kelly Loeffler, will focus on explaining how the law helps working-class voters. The main points include the elimination of taxes on tips and overtime, and incentives for U.S. production. The legislation also includes funding for border enforcement and wall construction, which Vance previously highlighted as crucial elements.

The rally location holds special significance, taking place in Pennsylvania’s eighth congressional district, where Republican Rob Bresnahan recently defeated Democratic incumbent Matt Cartwright. The area is just miles from Scranton, President Joe Biden’s hometown, making it symbolically important for both parties.

Local Republican congressman Bresnahan plans to campaign for reelection by highlighting the bill’s benefits, including the expanded child tax credit and support for manufacturing and small businesses. The White House chose a family-owned manufacturing facility for the rally to emphasize the law’s impact on American businesses.

However, the legislation faces challenges, as polls show many voters disapprove of it. Democrats plan to focus on controversial aspects of the law, such as Medicaid cuts, during the upcoming midterm elections. Political experts note that the party in power typically loses vulnerable seats during midterms, especially when opposing parties unite against controversial legislation.

For Vance, who might run for president in 2028, these appearances in key states like Pennsylvania could help build his political future. Republican strategists see these events as opportunities for Vance to increase his visibility and establish his brand for a potential presidential campaign.
