Barcelona 'will not yield' in Eric Garcia chase and more Man City transfer rumours

Barcelona remain determined to sign Eric Garcia from Manchester City in the January transfer window but only for a reasonable price, according to reports.

The Catalan outfit attempted to land Garcia in the summer transfer window and a move to the Nou Camp seems inevitable, with Garcia out of contract at the end of the season.

Ronald Koeman is keen to improve his defensive options in the New Year, however, and could make a move to land Garcia before he is available for free at the end of the season.

Mundo Deportivo via Sport Witness states Barcelona 'will not yield' in negotiations though and will only push ahead with a move if City ask for a 'reasonable price'.

If the price stated is too expensive, Barcelona will not move for an alternative and will instead stick with their current options, potentially promoting a young player from their B squad.

It is not an easy move for Barcelona to make though, as they need to offload players in order to make room in their wage bill, with a number of candidates that could be sold.

Samuel Umtiti, Junior Firpo, Martin Braithwaite and Carles Alena are among the players who could be sacrificed to raise funds.

Elsewhere, Manchester City are reportedly considering re-signing Douglas Luiz from Aston Villa after keeping a close eye on his performances since his exit from the Etihad Stadium.

The Brazilian was sold in the summer of 2019 for £15m, having failed to get a work permit with City, and that fee was enough to see him pass the threshold to get the required paperwork after his move to Villa Park.

According to 90Min, City are seriously considering re-signing the 22-year-old and activating a buy-back clause that was inserted into the agreement that saw him move to Villa.

Luiz was a regular last season for Dean Smith's side, as they avoided relegation from the Premier League, and has started all of the club's seven league games this season - including the dominating wins against Liverpool and Arsenal.

He has also worked his way into Brazil's national team, making his debut in November last year and accumulating three caps overall.

A return to City could result in him becoming the successor to compatriot Fernandinho, who turned 35 earlier this year and sees his contract expire at the end of the season.
